Disposition Authorities for Individual Classifications for Headquarters Case Files. Part B: Classification 193. Hobbs Act - Commercial Institutions.

The Bureau established this classification in 1977 when classification 92, Anti-Racketeering, was subdivided into specific criminal areas. Classification 193 investigations are based on obstruction of interstate commerce by robbery and extortion involving commercial establishments such as restaurants and other small businesses.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants. Each plant survey was a separate case file, with the survey, supplemental surveys, and all communications dealing with a plant insofar as plant protection was concerned, filed together.
